The Winter Solstice is upon us - the shortest day and longest night of the year. For some, this is a season of softening with interior movement - a time of rest. For others, this is a hard time of the year, stressful and even painful.
Wherever you are in that experience, more than ever, sink into that breath - the inhale and the exhale, taking in whatever is nourishing and good and releasing whatever is not needed at this time.
Peaceful wishes to all!

Laurel
Reiki Master
Laurel is a Vermonter and found her way to Reiki while taking care of her fellow Vermonters as a Hospice & Palliative Care nurse. Reiki provided a wonderful way of offering healing and touch to people who were navigating serious illness and end of life. In 2008, Laurel was attuned to Reiki Levels I and II; and in 2016, she was attuned to Level III Reiki Master practitioner and teacher and is certified in the Reiki tradition of Usui Shiki Ryoho. Due to her belief in natural healing, she furthered her studies in Wellness and Alternative Medicine, graduating with a B.S. in 2016 and married this way of thinking with her traditional care as an RN. She is honored to provide reiki as a way of promoting peace and calm to those who receive it.
Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands on or just above the body. This practice is based on an Eastern medicine belief that living beings have energy fields that support their health and vitality. There are at least 30 slightly different branches of reiki, but the most popular is Usui, which was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800's in Japan.
What to Expect During and From a Reiki Session
Reiki can be offered in different settings, including offering reiki through time and space during a distance reiki session. But especially pleasing and calming is a session offered in person in a relaxing environment.
Remaining fully clothed, the client can be in a sitting or lying position and, if lying, can be face up or face down. The practitioner uses various hand placements along the client's body, with a light touch or by hovering just over the body. The client often reports feelings of warm and relaxation.
During the session, the practitioner focuses on the intent of goodness for supporting the client's wellness.
After the session, the client may feel calm, relaxed, even "at peace" or serene. Sometimes a client will report feeling energized, but in a grounded manner. This feeling can last from minutes to hours.
Reiki can be provided for any length of time and known to provide benefit, but typical is a 30-60 minute session.

No - In fact, some clients sleep during the session
Reiki can be provided as a solitary session, but most often, clients schedule return visits on a consistent frequency (every week, every month, every few months)
No, unfortunately, this is not an insurance-benefited modality
